Chris has been a photographer since 1981 when he first picked up a camera, back in those days we use to use 35mm or medium format film
Chris saved for almost 18 months to by his first camera, this was a Paktika super TL 1000, a 50mm 85mm and a 200mm lens at a cost £480.98
Armed with the camera, lenes and 2 rolls of Agfa 200 film off he went to become a photographer… This is what Chris thought, when he had finished the 2 rolls of film, he then had them developed and to his surprise there were maybe 6 or 7 usable images out of a total of 48
This almost made Chris sell up and find a new hobby, but this is not the way Chris thinks, if it’s hard it’s worth chasing, so off he went to the library and out came photography books, and back went the books, out came the camera and off he went with more film a notebook and pencil, every image taken was logged and when developed crossed with the logs and this started to make sense, F stop’s, ASA (ISO), shutter speed, then by chance when he was out in the Peak District Chris came across another photographer, starting to chat Chris found that the photographer had been making images for over 20 years, asking for any advice he was told practice, practice, practice and then practice more, also learn how to develop your own films this will give you not only satisfaction but also assist with learning.
Chris still shoots on film occasionally and still develops his own films, this is just for personal use now adays.
After a lot of trial and error the secret to photography was revealed, there is no secret all you need is practice and more practice.
Chris continued to make pictures, Landscapes, Seascapes, Wildlife, and anything else that caught his eye.
In 2006 Chris was asked by friends to photograph their wedding, Chris already received his invite and asked why they were asking him as he knew they had employed a wedding photographer, the couple explained they had been contacted by the photographer’s wife who informed them he had been involved in a serious accident and would not be able to photograph their wedding, this was 2 weeks from the big day, as you can imagine the couple were in a huge panic, they had seen lots of Chris’s images and had a couple of images hanging on their wall.
Chris said he was not a professional photographer at that time, and besides wedding photography was an art form all of its own, not being able to get another photographer at such short notice and begged Chris to photograph their wedding, they knew Chris would be able to make a good job of the photography and talked him into photographing their wedding for them. The wedding was a complete success and Chris went on to photograph more weddings.
In 2018 Chris decided to reduce his workload and now only concentrates on Landscapes, seascapes wildlife and personal projects.
Chris still sells images all over the world and still photographs for stock sites but on a very small scale now adays.
